One thing I love to do is pipe cupcakes and recently I have been seeing cupcakes with more than one style of piping on the top are becoming really popular. If you’re new to piping cupcakes it can be hard to know which piping tips to use, so for this weeks video tutorial I am creating some really fun cupcakes using 4 different piping tips all on the same cupcake. This is a great effect and can be made in any colour, you can also use this same technique to cover the side of a cake or even the top of a tray bake.

These cupcakes are so much fun and I love the different effects you can create whether you are adding the styles together or piping the entire top of the cupcake in one design.

In the tutorial you will see for these cupcakes I used the Wilton #105 piping tip to create a rolling wave / shell effect on the side of the cake, pushing the buttercream towards the edge and coming back on itself. The #105 nozzle gives a really fun texture to the design. I then used the 2D closed star tip to create the classic rosette swirl, starting from the center and working my piping bag around. I think my favourite effect is the turquoise wave along the side which is created by placing the wider section of the #104 rose tip ontop of the cupcake and working back and forth to fill the space. The last space was then filled with some little buttercream star domes using the small open star #22 tip.

The cupcakes were then finished with the Cotton Candy sprinkle mix by Happy Sprinkles, which includes hundreds and thousands, star and hearts, coloured chocolate and metallic balls and long metallic pink strands.
