It was my Nieces birthday again and this year she had asked for a Hello Kitty cake way back at christmas, then a Tinkerbell cake, then changed it to an Ariel Cake before finally settling on Minnie Mouse 2 days before her party. I have to admit I’m glad she changed her mind because even though I had designed all the previous cakes on paper I loved how this cake turned out, and seeing her face when I brought it in was worth the last minute panic on what to do for a Minnie Mouse cake…
This cake was made up of 3 separate cakes, the main face was and 8inch round cake with 2 4inch cakes for the ears, all put together and carved into the correct shape. The cake itself was vanilla sponge with white chocolate ganache which tasted yummy! The whole cake and features were edible and covered in icing/fondant except for the bow which was made out of gumpaste, to allow it to keep its shape.

September 11, 2013Hi Suzanne,
I use a craft knife to cut out the fondant shapes. The knife needs to be really sharp to cut smoothly. I hope that helps.
Kind Regards

November 29, 2013Can you tell me which colour fondant you put on first? Did you cover the whole cake in pink fondant and then add the face on top? Also, what did you use as the trim around the face to cover the edges? Thank you!

What measurements did you use for the cake mixture?
Thanks.
