Cupcake Bouquet 2

After seeing my previous cupcake bouquet one of my friends asked me to create one for her Mums birthday. I had been really looking forward to making another one of these. The last time was the first time I had created one, so this time I was able to make it look so much better…

The bouquet was made up of 8 Large cupcakes and 11 small cupcakes, each secured onto a 10 inch polystyrene egg, which was fixed into a flower pot, with cocktail sticks. For the large cupcakes I used 3 sticks and the small ones I used 2. I found the trick with creating these cupcakes is to make the buttercream slightly thicker, and add a few tablespoons of water, which helps it crust over. This allows you to push the cupcakes together alot easier without the buttercream swirl getting messy.

I finished the bouquet off with some icing/fondant flowers and leaves, which fill any gaps perfectly. I then wrapped tissue paper and cellophane around the pot to give it the bouquet feel.

Bag & Handbag cake 2

A little while ago I was contacted by a man who wanted to get a cake for his wifes 40th birthday. She really loves bags and shoes so we went for a similar cake to one I had previously created, with a bag and pair of shoes ontop, surrounded by cupcakes. It is a very pretty, girly cake, the difference on this case was the shoes and bag were created in a Prada style…

The cake itself was a 10 inch round chocolate cake and was surrounded by 12 chocolate cupcakes. The large and small shoes and the bag were all made from gumpaste. For the large shoes and bag I brought black gumpaste which made the process a whole lot quicker and easier, as I didn’t need to colour it. I really loved how this pair of shoes turned out, it always seems slightly easier the second time. The small cupcakes have a combination of numbers and mini shoes. A tutorial of me making these can be found here

Pink Cupcake Flower Bouquet

February 17th is my Mum and Dads wedding anniversary, I wanted to create something a bit different to just a bunch of flowers, and I have been wanting to try out a cupcake bouquet for ages…

The bouquet was made up of 7 large cupcakes and 10 small mini cupcakes, in raspberry and banana flavour. To ice them I used I used 2 different shades of pink buttercream the Wilton 2D rose tip, which gives a fantastic effect. To put the bouquet together I brought a small flower pop and a polystyrene egg which I placed top down inside the flower pot. Then using 3 cocktail sticks per cupcake I started to arrange them. To add the finishing touches to the bouquet I cut out some fondant rose leaves and some daisies and placed theses in the gaps to close the spaces.

To hide the flower pot I cut some clear plastic and tissue paper and wrapped this around the pot with a bow to look like flowers from the florist. I must admit the hardest part of this was wrapping the plastic and tissue paper around without squashing the cupcakes. It definitely takes practice.

The second hardest part was trying to work out how to transport it to my Mum and Dads house without it falling over. the solution was to get an 11 inch cake box and push the lid inside the box. Then cut a circle out of the lid large enough to fit the pot into. I then placed the pot into the box and it worked fantastically to transport it without it falling over in the car.

Hand Bag & Shoe Cake with Cupcakes

I am slowly getting there and updating you with all my cake photos from the past month…

I was so excited when I got the email about this cake. The lady wanted shoes, a bag, feathers and cupcakes all in one cake. She wanted shoes with red soles to imitate louboutin shoes, so I thought it only apt that I base the bag on a Hermes bag…

The bag and shoes are both made from gumpaste, although with the top of the shoes I decide to try mexican paste. I know some people prefer to work with this but I found it very frustrating. It was very crumbly because it doesn’t have the elastacity that gumpaste has and it took a lot longer to set hard. For both the bag and the shoes I created a template before I started so that I new everything was the right size and shape. The cake was an 8inch cake, placed on a 14inch board to give room for the 10 cupcakes around the edge. Placed onto 5 of the cupcakes were smaller gumpaste shoes. A tutorial of me making these can be found here.

Postman Pat Cupcakes

A little while ago it my my partners nephew third birthday. I really wanted to make him some birthday cupcakes he would love. As we had brought him a postman pat helicopter I thought I would theme the cupcakes to postman pat, and here they are…

All the decorations were edible and made out of icing / fondant. The cupcakes were vanilla with vanilla buttercream. I loved making these cupcakes but I had the postman pat theme tune stuck in my head for the entire day. I was so happy when I gave them to Arran as he really seemed to like them.

There are some more photos in my cupcake gallery so please take a look…
