You may know that one of my favourite things to create is gumpaste flowers. I just love how pretty they look added to birthday and especially wedding cakes. In the UK at the moment it is lavender season, so I thought I would share with you a tutorial on how I make it.
So if you are looking for an alternative to adding real lavender to your cakes this would be perfect. You could add it on the top, in with other gumpaste flowers or maybe create wreaths around the top of your cake tiers.
For the lavender I kept it quite simple, so it depicts the stems before the flowers have come out, so you have a stem with small purple buds going all the way down. I then added some violet and foliage green petal dust to add some different shades, which really brought it to life.
One of the great things about this flower is you can make it without any cutters. In the video I used a small Lilly of the Valley cutter, but this was only to speed up the process and make sure all my pieces were the same size, but if you don’t have a cutter that is absolutely fine, you can roll small balls of gumpaste and taper them into the same tear drop shapes. These are then attached the your wire in little clusters.
Below is the full video tutorial showing exactly how I made the lavender. I really hope you will enjoy it and find it useful if you are looking to make your own flowers.
If you’re also looking to find out how to make other gumpaste / sugar flowers you will find more tutorials on my Tutorials page!.
