Recently I designed some vintage mini cakes for a wedding show which I was exhibiting in (although I will save that for another post). I wanted to create something that was pretty and delicate using ivories and dusky pinks. Following on from the show I created a set of vintage cupcakes to match the same theme. I think my favourite thing about the mini cakes and the cupcakes is the delicate cameo design which was created using a mold I recently picked up from the International cake show.

The mini cakes are 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches high and feed 1 – 2 people. I love the different styles of cake and how they still seem to belong together. The first mini cake has the mini cameo which is framed with ruffles and has the pearl detail around the bottom. For the second mini cake I wanted it to be really delicate and for the main focus to be the gumpaste rose on the top. The third mini cake has a quilted effect and where each diamond meets a pretty ivory pearl edible bead. I loved this effect and wanted to follow this through onto the cupcake design.

For the cupcakes I started by creating a low dome of buttercream and embossing the dusky pink icing with the quilting tool. I then applied the same cameo design from the mini cake onto a high domed cupcake. I love how the dusky pink comes together with the natural coloured buttercream.
