This was also a wedding cake that I made to take to the Detling wedding show in October. I had designed a set of stationery and wanted to create a cake that complimented these. I wanted a very simple looking cake which made a feature of it’s flowers and that showed the same damask pattern that featured on the invitations but without it being overpowering…

The idea that I had was to include the same damask pattern onto the board. I covered the board in icing / fondant and hand painted a replica of the design. Despite the amount of hand numbing hours it took to hand paint the intricate pattern it was definitely worth it, I loved how this cake looked when I stacked the tiers onto the design. The cake itself was 3 tiers made up of a 5 inch on top, 7 inch in the middle and 9 inches on the bottom. Each tier is 5 inches in height.

The flowers on the cake are gumpaste peonies, I loved making these. I created 2 large peonies and 2 smaller ones for the board. I used a set of peony cutters and veiners which added the extra detail when you are up close.
