When I was planning the cakes to take to the Detling Wedding show I wanted to create a cake that had a vintage feel about it but was a little different to the traditional white or ivory cake. My idea was a pink lace cake with simple roses…

This cake is a 6 inch cake on the top, 8 inch in the middle and 10 inch on the bottom. The hardest part about this cake was getting the exact shade of pink that I wanted. This took literally hours, when you use gel pastes to colour the icing / fondant the pink comes out very bright and vivid, but I wanted something that had a vintage feel to it, a dusty pink, strangely the solution to this is to add blue! Once I put the pink on the cake I really loved the lace wrapped around each tier with the thin pink ribbon and the simplicity of the 2 gumpaste roses perched on the edges. I also think this cake would look great with a dome of pink gumpaste roses on the top.

If you would like to see matching wedding invitations, table numbers, drinking straws and favours all designed to match this cake then take a look at the galleries on my other website dedicated to all things weddings, The Little Touches.
