This cake was a last minute order for a little boys 3rd birthday, and I am so glad that I accepted the order. I had the most fun creating this cake. The lady wanted a carved cake in the shape of Mater from the Disney film Cars…
The cake itself was a 10 x 6 inch chocolate cake. To raise the cake off the board slightly I cut up another cake drum board into a rectangle slightly smaller than the cake and stuck this onto the board, cutting a drum board is no easy feat and was so messy! I then covered the whole board in icing / fondant to give the appearance of sand. This then gave a great base to sit the cake onto and allow for a small gap to give the impression the wheels are holding the car up.
Once I added the eyes and mouth to this cake it really brought it to life. To create the rust detail I used petal dust and food colour paste for the door. The winch on the back of the truck and the wing mirrors were made out of gumpaste, and were the only parts of the cake which were not edible.
I really loved how this cake turned out, it was such a fun cake. I hoped the little boy liked it just as much. There are more photos in my cake gallery, so check them out!
