Yesterday was my nieces 2nd birthday party. I have been planning this cake for so long. Lexie absolutely loves Fifi and the Flowertots so she told me she wanted a Fifi cake for her birthday. It was quite daunting, this cake needed a spout and 2 handles attached and also needed to travel in the car to my brothers house. Luckily after the slowest drive there it all arrived in one piece, such relief. So about the cake, the cake was 5 layers of 8 inch vanilla sponge cake piled up, which I tapered in at the top to create the correct shape. The cake is covered in yellow icing with most of the shapes added also being icing. The handles, spout, and drainpipe are made out of gumpaste. So here is the cake…

Below is a close up of different parts of the cake. I decided to make the Fifi out of Polymer Clay. This was my first attempt at using this, but I wanted to make something that Lexie could keep after the cake had gone. So I modeled it and put it in the oven to harden. I have to say it was so nice seeing her face when I brought it in.

I have put loads more pictures in the cake gallery from all different angles, so please take a look. Also I took pictures all the way through making this cake, so I will put these into a how-to tutorial over the next few days and post this up also.
